About The JLK Provisional Project

The Junior League of Kingston (founded in 1922) is part of an international organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. As a provisional member of the Junior League, new members are asked to identify a project in their first year; a need or service in the community that speaks to them at to the mission of JLK.

     This year The Junior League of Kingston’s 2021-2022 Provisional Class thoughtfully decided to work with One Hope and their Community Fridge Project. The Blue Fridge, Free Food Fridge is an outdoor community refrigerator and food pantry operated by the One Hope Community Congregation at the United Methodist Church on Clinton Ave in Kingston, NY. The fridge was created in 2020 in response to the Covid 19 pandemic which amplified the already considerable food insecurity in the Kingston Mid Town area. This easily accessible fridge and pantry is open daily from 11AM-8:30PM. It is estimated that 60 – 80 people drop off and/or pick up food daily. The refrigerator is generally emptied 2-3 times a day.

     The Junior League of Kingston’s 2021-2022 Provisional Class is raising funds to help build a table, shelving unit, an overhang to keep food clean and dry and possibly a larger landing and floor to tie it all together.
